| | Frequently Asked Questions | | |
| Do orthopaedic surgeons only do surgery ? | `` | Actually, most of our patients do not require surgery and are treated with non-operative methods. Examples include medications, physical therapy, injection therapy, and fracture care (casting and splinting). |
| I'm concerned about too much pain after surgery. Are there any new methods to minimize post-operative pain? | | Yes, recently there have been several advances in post-operative pain management, especially for orthopaedic surgery. These range from newer, more potent medications to devices that inject pain medication directly into the surgical site. |
| How safe is orthopaedic surgery? | | Today, there are many techniques utilized to make orthopaedic surgery safer than ever. Anesthesia is much safer with newer anesthetics. Medications are used to minimize intra-operative and post-operative complications. In any procedures that may require blood transfusions, the patient's own blood is donated pre-operatively to nearly eliminate any risk of blood-borne disease. At Mercer-Bucks Orthopaedics, we are constantly exploring new techniques to make surgery as risk-free as possible.
